THE CRICKET FOUNDATION’S NATIONAL SPORTS QUIZ
IN CONJUNCTION WITH CHANCE TO SHINE.
  Dear Member,

As many of you will know, since 1982 a National Grand Draw has taken place annually with clubs raising considerable sums of money for The Cricket Foundation, which benefits young people within and around cricket clubs at no cost to the clubs themselves.

Each year participation in the Draw has increased.  In 2005 1100 clubs took part and collectively they raised over £290,000 for cricket.

As a registered charity, the Cricket Foundation is able to make a tax-free donation from the proceeds of the event to clubs such as Ombersley CC with the proviso that the income received be spent in ways that will benefit young cricketers. The options open to us are as follows:

  • Purchasing and maintenance of ground equipment, non-turf pitches/nets and cricket-square maintenance

  • Providing coaching, equipment and competition for junior members

  • Developing club-links with local schools.

  • Providing cricket for the disabled.

  • Funding training courses for coaches, groundsmen and umpires

For 2006, and for a number of reasons, The Cricket Foundation has decided to make the event a National Sports Quiz which will give Ombersley CC an excellent opportunity to generate significant income for developing Youth Cricket, whilst at the same time supporting the Cricket Foundation’s Chance to Shine campaign which aims to revitalise cricket in state schools.

The National Sports Quiz will consist of questions relating to a wide variety of sporting topics with each of the top 50 participants receiving a major prize, the first of which will be a cheque for £5,000.

The entry fee is just £2.00 with 50% of the income retained by Ombersley CC as a tax-free donation and the other 50% going to the Cricket Foundation to cover the costs and to support Chance to Shine

We expect that - with its very attractive prizes and broad appeal - the Sports Quiz will generate considerable interest.  A minimum target of 200 entries is well within the reach of our club, but if we all get behind this and offer the quiz out to family, friends, work colleagues, etc, then the sky’s the limit in terms of potential funds we can raise jointly for Ombersley CC and for youngsters within schools across Britain through Chance to Shine.

In addition to the national prizes valued at around £35,000, there will be a special prize for the club that secures the greatest number of entries.  This an opportunity to host in 2007 a match against Lashings, the international cricket team, at no cost to Ombersley CC.

Furthermore, the individual winner from Ombersley CC will have their winning entry sent for inclusion in the National Competition - which will take place in September 2006.

The Quiz commences on 1st May 2006.  You'll soon see posters up around the club, and more information will be posted on the website in the next few days.

Lets make this a massive success for Ombersley CC!
